Biography

Born in Moscow in 1945, he graduated as a director from a drama department at Moscow’s film school VGIK. From 1971 he
worked at a studio that produced popular science films; during this time he directed over 15 productions, largely about the
cosmos. From 1977-80 he made 20 commercials for the Soviet Union’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He now works as a writer
and director for “InterVideoCon“ studio in Moscow. MOSKVA. PRIDE ’06 marks his first feature-length documentary.

Synopsis/english

This is the official documentary record of the first Christopher Street Day celebration in Moscow. The events that took place in May 2006 included a CSD parade, which garnered international attention not least because Moscow’s mayor Yuri Luzhkov had tried to ban it. This film shows not only the procession that, followed by international guests and observers, made its way through the centre of Moscow from the Unknown Soldier’s Me morial on 27 May, 2006, it also contains footage of a three-day festival that drew attention to the discrimination experienced by gays and lesbians in Russia. In addition, the film mentions a series of seminars, lectures, and gay and lesbian cultural events, some of which could only take place in great secrecy.The pressures to which gays and lesbians are exposed in Russia was unexpectedly made clear during the CSD demonstration when German MPVolker Beck (from the Bündnis90/Green Party) was assaulted and injured by right-wing extremist counter-demonstrators in front of Moscow’s town hall. Millions of television viewers all over the world witnessed these attacks. Footage of the assault is now being used as evidence in proceedings against the Russian Federation currently being held before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

Geboren 1945 in Moskau. Er absolvierte Regieausbildungen an einem Theaterinstitut und an der Moskauer Filmhochschule VGIK.
Ab 1971 arbeitete er im Studio für populärwissenschaftliche
Filme, wo unter seiner Regie mehr als 15 Produktionen vor allem
über den Kosmos entstanden. In den Jahren 1977-80 drehte er 20 Werbefilme für das Außenhandelsministerium. Er arbeitet nunmehr als Autor und Regisseur für das „InterVideoCon“-Studio in Moskau. MOSKVA. PRIDE ’06 ist sein erster langer Dokumentarfilm.

Der offizielle Dokumentarfilm zur ersten Feier des Christopher Street Days in Moskau. In dessen Rahmen fand im Mai 2006 auch eine CSD-Parade statt, die weltweit Aufmerksamkeit auf sich zog, nicht zuletzt, weil der Moskauer Bürgermeister Juri Luschkov die Demonstration verboten hatte. Der Film zeigt nicht nur den von internationalen Gästen und Beobachtern begleiteten Umzug vom Grabmal des Unbekannten Soldaten durch die Moskauer Innenstadt am 27. Mai 2006. Er enthält darüber hinaus Aufnahmen von einem dreitägigen Festival, das auf die Diskriminierung von Schwulen und Lesben in Russland aufmerksam machte. Dabei berichtet er von Seminaren, Vorträgen und schwul-lesbischen Kulturveranstaltungen, die zum Teil nur unter großer Geheimhaltung stattfinden konnten. Denn welchen Pressio nen Schwule und Lesben in Russland ausgesetzt sind, wurde unversehens deutlich, als während der CSD-Demonstration der Bundestags abgeordnete Volker Beck (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) vor dem Moskauer Rathaus von rechts radikalen Gegendemonstranten angegriffen und verletzt wurde. Millionen Fernsehzuschauer in aller Welt wurden Zeugen dieser Übergriffe. Die damals entstandenen Aufnahmen dienen mittlerweile als Beweismittel in einem Verfahren gegen die Russische Föderation vor dem Europäischen Gerichtshof für Menschenrechte in Strasbourg.
