Sunny Land

SUNNY LAND ist eine essayistische Zeitreise durch das Freizeitparadies Sun City während der Apartheid und Post-Apartheid in Südafrika, doch es geht um mehr als die Star- und Glamour-Welt. Der Fokus liegt auf den alltäglichen Details dieses Nicht-Ortes: Über die Pools, die Teppiche und Palmen-Klischees dringt der Film zu den Ereignissen vor, die hier im Schatten der Geschichte stattgefunden haben. SUNNY LAND sucht sich diesen Ort zwischen Vergangenheit und Gegenwart, um vor dem Hintergrund der künstlichen Welt von Sun City das reale Leben im Zentrum von Johannesburg verstehbar zu machen.

SUNNY LAND is an illustration of time travel through Sun City, a free time paradise both during and after South African Apartheid. This film is about more than stars and glamour. It focuses on the mundane details and non-places: Swimming pool and palm tree clichés flood the film with a tide of events that happened in the shadow of history. SUNNY LAND is on an axis between past and present, juxtaposing the artificial world of Sun City with the realities life in the center of Johannesburg.
